Project 1000 : celebrating participation and commitment
We hoped 1000 students would represent Sevenoaks School teams in 2019-20 . In the year of lockdown , a representation of 897 was a delightful outcome .
The PE and Sport department has long had a philosophy of participation as well as excellence . This year we launched Project 1000 , a drive to provide 1000 students the opportunity to represent the school over the course of the year . Unfortunately the season was curtailed , so we did not reach our goal , but we were delighted to have supported 897 students to represent Sevenoaks teams in 2019-20 ; this gives us the drive and confidence to achieve our ambitious target in future .
We have also introduced medals to celebrate our students ’ commitment . They will be awarded to every pupil who has made 50 or more team appearances across the various sports in one year . Bronze medals will be presented to those students who earn 50 appearances in one year , while silver medals will go to those who reach that achievement for a second year . Gold medals will go to those who make 50 appearances for a third year .
These medals are for students representing any standard team and are our way to recognise and celebrate the commitment required to participate at every level . We hope these medals will inspire all students to seize as many opportunities on the sports fields as they can .
A number of students were well on course to collect 50 appearances this year despite the abrupt end to the season .
