Jazz
Alex Vafai ( Lower Sixth ) and Jacob Robinson ( OS 2019 working in the Music department ) then took to the stage to perform a jazzy take on Christmas favourites . As the penultimate act in the concert , the Big Band returned to perform several more pieces , notably a stunning performance of ‘ Goldfinger ’, again with Mitika as the singer . It brought the audience to their feet .
As is traditional every year , all the concert ’ s performers swarmed the stage at the end for a Christmas medley – and luckily the performers were joined by none other than Father Christmas himself , parading around the stage as the snow floated down , covering the performers and their instruments .
Although the power cut out all across campus just minutes before the next big event in the jazz calendar , Sevenoaks Swings , the concert started with a bang as the Big Band took to the stage once again , with an astounding performance of the blues classic ‘ Why don ’ t you do right ’, sung by Jamie Ho ( Upper Sixth ). The line-up for the rest of the concert was similar to Crash into Christmas , with the addition of the Flute Choir performing right after the Big Band .
Although we weren ’ t at school during the Summer term , not even a global pandemic can stop the jazz , with performance opportunities provided by the virtual concert Jazz through the Ages , organised by Zenaide Castellano Pucci of Year 11 .
