Caesar

The Middle School SSTC production juxtaposed abstract physical theatre and compelling naturalistic acting to chronicle a tumultuous tale of political intrigue and betrayal .

Caesar was adapted from William Shakespeare ’ s Julius Caesar by the cast and director Mr Karl Niklas . The first act focused on Caesar ’ s rise and fall in the Roman Senate , here modelled on the UK ’ s House of Commons , and the assassination plot spearheaded by conspirators Cassius and Brutus . Caesar ( brilliantly portrayed by Gajan Sivayogan ) was equal parts charismatic and ruthless , his bold attitude in stark contrast to the subtlety employed by the rest of the Senate . The relationship between the power-hungry
Cassius ( Charlie Bailey ) and the visionary Brutus ( Tabitha Bolter ) became one of the most riveting strands of the play as their tight bond provided the audience with a raw exploration of leadership , loyalty and morality , underpinned by the pressure of the expectations of their allies . The tensions and interactions between these three characters amplified the emotional ramifications of Caesar ’ s assassination at the end of the first act .
