by heart and have spent my alone time trying to get under the skin of those characters – including asking my parents to empty buckets of cold water over my head from an upstairs window to find out what a shipwrecked , rain-drenched Trinculo in The Tempest must feel like . Absorbing , experimenting , producing , adjusting : welcome to the madness of lockdown .
Amelie Doll ( Year 11 ) used the time to create a project of her own : unconventional than anything I have ever created before , and I believe that this creative explosion is a result of the lockdown .
I have been able to focus on art , enjoy lots of streamed theatre – including plays by my current favourite : Tennessee Williams . I ’ ve read some existentialist literature and looked at Shakespeare texts I hadn ’ t read before . To exercise my acting muscles , I have learned more Shakespeare passages
I decided it would be a great time to write a play . Working around the idea of memory , I developed a story about an old woman trying to regain fragments of memory through her diaries . I decided that each entry in the diary would become the scene staged , allowing the woman to watch her life play out in front of her . It has been great for me to create an idea , develop it , and think about the characters ’ lives . I then decided to combine my art with this theatre idea by creating the set at home and basing the scenery on different pieces of artwork . Working with Miss Won in Art and Miss Low in photography club , I gained new skills in editing and Photoshop and some advice on how to help bring my set to life .
