Paul Hemans
Paul retires from the Grounds and Gardens team after an absolutely incredible 50 years of loyal service .
Paul started at Sevenoaks School on 1 April 1970 and is a familiar face to us all . Strong-willed and determined , Paul has worked incredibly hard in all weathers .
He is always ready to chat on a wide range of subjects , with an eclectic interest in history and geography . You never quite know what Paul will come out with next ; he speaks French and some German , enjoys listening to classical music , and has a fantastic sense of humour !
We will all miss Paul and his smile around the school , and particularly in the Estates Yard . Never one to sit still for long , retirement will allow Paul time for travel , in particular walking holidays . We look forward to continue seeing him cycling around Sevenoaks for many years to come .
Thank you , Paul , for all you have done for Sevenoaks School and we wish you much happiness in your retirement .

Lynne Heritage
For many colleagues , pupils and parents , Lynne was the first person they met at Sevenoaks School and her smiling face and warm welcome left a lasting impression . All visitors – from a Year 7 pupil who had lost their bag , to royalty , to celebrities ( often having to pretend she didn ’ t know who they were ) – were treated alike .
Always professional , as the ‘ gatekeeper ’ of the school , she was often the first to know news : frequently happy , such as engagements , marriages and the arrival of babies , but also sometimes sad . She knew a lot of our secrets from the parcels we had delivered to school , and we got to know some of hers – just how many handbags from Grace , a favourite shop , did she tell husband Freddie she had ‘ had for ages ’ and he just hadn ’ t noticed ?
Always ready for a chat about the book she was reading , her garden or her next holiday , Lynne can now ( once lockdown is over ) look forward to more travel . For those of us in Main Office , she has been ‘ one of the girls ’, but also at times a ‘ surrogate mum ’, telling us to go home when we were unwell . Lynne has seen it all and we will miss her .
