SONNY MEHTA 1942-2019
We were sad to hear of the death of eminent publisher Ajai Singh ( Sonny ) Mehta in December 2019 .
Described as the most influential editor and publisher of his generation , he was the editor-in-chief of Knopf and chairman of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing .
Sonny joined Sevenoaks in the Lower Sixth in 1959 , and was one of the first members of Park Grange when it became a boarding house for senior boys . During his years at Sevenoaks he was joint house captain and obtained a scholarship to read English and History at St Catharine ’ s College , Cambridge .
