Royal Navy
The Royal Navy section continued to experience a wide variety of activities alongside regular Thursday afternoon sailing sessions at Bough Beech . On the October Field Day , the older cadets visited the Damage Repair Instructional Unit at HMS Excellent where we used our teamwork skills and experience to stop the ship sinking during a simulation , and did some firefighting too ! Our new Year 10 cadets were able to have their first afloat experience whilst canoeing on the river Medway . During the Summer term , cadets have continued their weekly parades virtually , continuing to learn and recap a wide variety of syllabus aspects . We would like to thank WO Tom Langford , who has been an excellent head of section this year .

With 55 new Year 10 cadets in September , it was a very promising year for the Army section . Under the command of Capt Mavroleon throughout the Michaelmas term the new recruits competed against the other services as part of Training Section and experienced their first field day in October . Platoons were led by senior cadets , who taught a mixture of Duke of Edinburgh style skills as well as basic military training . The Year 11 cadets undertook their Cadet Force Instructional Training , honing their military knowledge , as well as practised the teaching skills they will use to help the new cadet intake in September . With a full complement of 22 passes it was a great success . The Military Skills Team undertook much training to prepare for upcoming competitions , culminating in a weekend where we had the opportunity to learn from some extremely experienced soldiers . Unfortunately , the lockdown meant these plans were curtailed along with summer camp and a field day . However , this has only made us more ready to go again next year !

It has been another busy and successful year for the Royal Air Force Section ! In the Training Section , the Year 10 cadets won the interplatoon competition , and Sgt Josh Davies was named best NCO . Year 10 and 11 cadets also made great progress on the syllabus and were involved in a huge variety of command tasks , lessons and activities organised by the NCOs . On Field Day in October we visited the Battle of Britain Bunker , where we were able to get a taste of the strategy and atmosphere of the time . While the RAF dinner was not able to happen this year , and we were not able to have parade as usual in the Summer term , the RAF section has become stronger and closer . It has been amazing to see the enthusiasm with which cadets have come together and participated in RAF activities , such as scavenger hunts – bonus marks to the Year 10s for organising their objects into attractive photo montages – and quizzes ( one Year 11 cadet finished the car quiz in less than two minutes !). We will greatly miss this year ’ s Upper Sixth , including our Head of Section Flt Sgt Max Manley ; it is thanks to their commitment and passion that the RAF section is what it is today .
