Outreach and Partnership
Sevenoaks School is fortunate to be in a position to help others , and to flourish ourselves through our mutually beneficial relationships . This year , we have continued to work on the outreach programme throughout the Covid-19 pandemic , which has shown the power of working collectively .
Similar to our Service and Social Impact programmes , our Outreach and Partnership programme focuses on a sense of mutuality , as we reach out to others to give what we can and benefit as a school from these reciprocal relationships . The pandemic has illuminated the importance of connection , community engagement and interdependence . We are committed to continuing our engagement locally , nationally and globally in working towards making a better future together . We are proud to be a part of a bigger picture .
The major outreach and partnership initiatives this year involved working together with other schools and students . We kicked off the year with the Galactic Challenge , a project whereby a group of our Year 7 students collaborated with pupils in Years 5 , 6 and 7 in many different local schools . The whole-day event challenged students to develop a resort settlement for humans that could withstand the moon ’ s harsh conditions . They then pitched their project to parents and a panel of judges in the Pamoja Hall at the end of the day . It was great to see so many students from different backgrounds working towards a shared goal .
In October we hosted 330 teachers , headteachers and teaching assistants for the annual Primary School Conference . A key part of our outreach programme , developed by the Sevenoaks Partnership of Primary Schools , the event was a great opportunity for schools to share best practice and network .
Our annual STEM Week welcomed over 1900 children from 17 primary schools to a variety of interactive workshops and shows , giving them access to the STEM facilities and resources they might not have in their own schools . One group launched a rocket on campus before visiting NASA in a virtual reality session , while others watched a show on Liquid
