Eco Committee
Environmental awareness has flourished in recent years , and the students and staff at Sevenoaks have taken advantage of this momentum to drive our community to becoming a more environmentally careful one . This determination and dedication are , I believe , crucial aspects in making and implementing positive change .
In our Tree Planting Week in January , students and staff helped the Grounds and Gardens team plant 225 trees around a new wildflower meadow behind the Science and Technology Centre . The trees and meadow will help to restore the area and increase biodiversity .
In the recent past , student-led initiatives , such as the annual Green Week and elimination of single-use plastic bottles in packed lunches , have inspired us , in the Eco Committee , to take a more formal approach towards student-led environmental sustainability . Projects such as carbon offsetting , meat-free Mondays , tree planting , and even setting up bug hotels are all examples of impactful initiatives we are considering within the school .
Sevenoaks is also applying for the Bronze Eco-Schools award , which recognises the school ’ s work within environmental conservation and sustainability . Eco- Schools is a programme that inspires students around the world to increase their environmental awareness .
