Show of Support
In December we held a charity concert and talent show , The Show of Support , in aid of YoungMinds , a charity for 14-25-year-olds who are struggling with their mental health . We hoped to raise awareness as well as funds , since mental health issues affect so many people worldwide . We opened the concert with a video of Dwayne ‘ The Rock ’ Johnson , to show that mental health problems affect people of all genders and ages .
It was so inspiring to see teachers and students from all departments and year groups participate , cheered on by a 300-strong audience . Some of the amazing acts included Alexandre Vafai , Columbus Sandor and Hugo Lagergren ( all Lower Sixth ) singing an original song , and Alexia Scotiniadis ( Year 8 ), who amazed the audience with her performance of ‘ Skyscraper ’ by Demi Lovato .
We were thrilled to see 13 teachers participating , including a big group of nine who gave a performance of ‘ Fairytale of New York ’ that was voted the winning act and was complimented by students and parents many times over the following weeks .
The concert closed with a mass performance of Queen ’ s ‘ Don ’ t Stop me Now ’ by all the artists – a wonderfully upbeat end to an incredible night . The concert raised nearly £ 3000 for YoungMinds .
