U14 Girls Tier 1
National Finals
Leading up to the county tournament we won
all seven matches, which instilled us with huge
confidence. Having become county champions we
went to the first round of the regional tournament,
and played really well to claim the trophy. Moving
into the second round of regionals, we were confident
but not complacent. We played some tough teams
and ended a few of them in a draw, meaning we
needed to win our last match by a big margin. We
duly delivered to qualify for the national finals. After
lots of hard work and training, we arrived at Lee Valley
and turned in some excellent performances to finish
as the fifth best team in the country. Our success and
enjoyment from this season can be largely attributed
to our fantastic coach, Mr Drury, whom we thank
wholeheartedly!
Annabel Cheveley, Captain, Year 9
Boys Hockey
The boys had an excellent season. We won our
first three matches easily, with our three incredibly
talented Year 11s – George Fisher, Paul van Velsen
and Dominic Sassone – providing firepower upfront
and solidity at the back. There was always plenty of
entertainment on show, with the team scoring 28
goals, while conceding 19 (despite the heroic efforts
of our outstanding goalkeeper Will Baulkwill). We
embraced a much tougher fixture list in the second
half of the season, and despite being humbled by an
excellent Cranbrook 1st XI, we had a cracking 5-5
draw against Lingfield 1st XI and were unlucky to
lose 3-4 to Skinners’ 1st XI, as a few tight decisions
tipped the match against us.
The highlight of the season was a 2-0 victory in a
finely balanced match against Tonbridge’s Upper
Sixth 2nd and 3rd team players. The match included
the most sublime goal from George Fisher (who
finished as our top scorer), volleying in an aerial
from our outstanding captain Freddie Alfes, who
led by example throughout the season. It would be
remiss not to mention also our 2nd XI, who played
their first fixtures in some years, and recorded a very
gentlemanly 3-1 victory against Tonbridge 5th XI,
with many of our players playing for the first time.
