Netball: Kent Champions S A IL IN G British Schools, RYA U19 Youth and U19 Ladies champions! Sevenoaks sailors enjoyed a fantastic year of success. The A team started off in October by winning the RYA U19 Youth Team Racing National Championships. They went on to win the South East and Thames Valley regional schools championships and rounded the year off with a stunning performance at the British Schools Team Racing National Championships, winning the event without losing a single race across three days of competition. The B team also performed well, finishing third at both the Southern Area Championships and Thames Valley Championships, and finishing seventh overall at the nationals. The girls also performed well at the RYA Ladies Nationals, defending their U19 title and winning the Silver league, defeating a number of university and club teams. Further down the year groups Becky and William Caiger (Years 9 and 10) had an impressive year in the RS Feva; they finished fifth at the World Championships and individually Becky was fifth at the Tera Nationals (first girl), and William seventh at the RS Aero Nationals. Josh Davies placed seventh at the Feva Worlds, Cossie Lewis was again selected for the GBR 420 team and Nicholas Davies for the Swiss Laser Radial Team. Sailing saw over 80 pupils take part in the school programme. This year the Navy CCF Section moved from Chipstead to Bough Beech, which, along with the purchase of six new boats, should see a more comprehensive programme for those pupils. Congratulations to all sailors on an impressive and exhilarating year. Andy Cornah Junior teams win the county championships while seniors reach regionals. The junior girls finished off the final week of the Lent term with their respective county tournaments. The U13s had the big job of defending last year’s title. They played with great determination and drive with only one goal in mind: retaining the title. Their solid teamwork saw them through to the final against Kent College Pembury, where they recorded a convincing 5-0 win. Within a matter of days the U12s set off with the same prospect in mind; that they too had a chance at winning their tournament. The day started brilliantly with the team winning all of their pool matches before moving swiftly through the quarter-finals and the semi-finals. The final saw them come up against a tough TOGS team. There was nothing in it at half time and then the girls stormed away with a 10-2 win. 84 The senior girls started their netball campaign way back in September where they comfortably progressed out of the first round of the county tournament, securing a place at the Kent finals. Winning all bar one game in the round robin placed them as runners-up in the county, giving them an opportunity to represent Kent at the London and South East regional finals. At this prestigious event, the girls had a mixed day and although they only lost one game, they finished equal fourth – just short of qualifying for the nationals.
