Printmaking by Years 7 to 10
Monoprints
The students produced monoprints inspired by
the concept of Futurism. Embodying energy and
dynamism, our prints celebrated the modern world of
industry and technology. Heading out onto the school
campus, the students took abstracted shapes from
cars and other vehicles, producing a series of stencils
to be applied in the monoprinting process. They then
ran their shapes through the printing press on inked-
up boards, in two layers. This process resulted in an
overlay of different abstracted and negative shapes,
drawing on the mechanistic quality of the Futurist
movement.
Collagraph
In response to a recent trip to Tudeley, to see
Marc Chagall’s stained-glass windows, students
were inspired by colour and vibrancy as a way
of communicating emotional resonance. These
collagraphs were produced as preliminary prints before
working towards a more sustained piece. The students
began to understand how different materials behave
when applied to a collagraph plate. The designs were
often impulsive and spontaneous.
