S A I LI NG C ricket Under 16 national and international champions The 1st team had a strong year, finishing second overall at the U19 Youth Team Racing Championships in October and runners-up at the South East Area Championships. The Summer term culminated with them finishing as runners-up in the British Schools National and International Championships at the end of June, where they lost out to a very strong Winchester team. The U16 team finished fourth at the Junior Team Racing Championships where they were comfortably the top-placed school team. They then secured the U16 title at the British Schools National and International Championships. Another standout success was the ladies’ team that claimed the U19 Ladies National Championship title back in February. 84 SPORT REVIEW Our younger sailors have also been competing on the RS Feva Circuit with six boats attending the World Championships in Holland in July where Josh Davies sailing with Ian Ratnage, and Anne-Marie Ratnage sailing with Alice Parker qualified for the Gold League. Anne-Marie and Alice were also first girls at the RS Feva Winter and Spring Championships. Becky Caiger, still only in Year 8, was first girl (sailing with her partner from another school) in the RS Feva UK Nationals and second at the RS Feva World Champs – she has also just finished as first girl and eighth overall in the RS Tera Nationals, which is single handed. William Caiger finished seventh out of over 100 boats at Itchenor Schools Week and currently lies fourth in the Eurocup series. Other sailors competing on the international stage were Nicholas Davies who represented Switzerland in the Laser radial class and Cossie Lewis who was selected for the GBR 420 team. Andy Cornah 2017 saw the introduction of a Cricket League involving Eltham College, Judd, Reigate GS, Sutton Valence and Sevenoaks at 1st, 2nd, U15A/B and U14A/B levels. The intention of this format is to provide teams with sustained focus during exam season. Reigate were the overall winners while Sevenoaks won the U14A section. U13A: team of the season 1st XI U14: an impressive league performance Seven wins and seven losses did not reflect the strength of this year’s
