Old Sennockian reunions Sevenoaks School’s alumni programme represents the opportunity for the school to connect with and celebrate its former students. As well as helping OS to reconnect, our alumni events give a real insight into the school’s recent and distant past, and reveal the warmth OS feel for the school. 116 Annual Dinner 10 and 20 Year Reunions Our reunion events are some of the highlights of our year. The biggest of the reunions is the Annual Dinner, which this year was held at the House of Commons in November. The House of Commons provided a historic backdrop to the event and many attendees took advantage of a tour of the building beforehand. Lord Evans (Jonathan Evans, OS 1976), former Director-General of MI5, gave an excellent speech about his time at Sevenoaks and his career with the security service. This event has been running for the last five years and the numbers attending have steadily increased. Any Old Sennockians can attend but it focuses on those who left 30 and 40 years ago. This year’s total of 170 shows how successful the Annual Dinner has become, with OS travelling from around the world to attend. The 10 Year Reunion took place in March with over 100 former students from the Class of 2007, and in May over 60 OS attended the 20 Year Reunion for the Class of 1997. ALUMNI REVIEW 90 years of Johnsons and 40 years of GIH We held two boarding house reunions in the Summer term. In May a group of Old Johnsonians enjoyed a tour of Johnsons, followed by lunch in the Recital Room to celebrate the boarding house’s 90-year anniversary. There was a striking range of OS at this event with leavers from 1945 through to 2016. Founder’s Day On the school’s Founder’s Day we welcomed back 70 OS to have lunch on Manor House lawn followed by a tour of the school. The tour took in old sites such as the Johnson Library, Swanzy Block and the (never to be missed) old swimming pool. The history of these buildings is a striking contrast to the most recent additions, The Space, The Sennocke Centre and what will be the new Science and Technology and Sixth Form Centres. Alex Smith The GIH 40th anniversary reunion was held on a beautiful afternoon in June. Over 70 OS enjoyed drinks and a BBQ with the house staff and current GIH Lower Sixth students.
