If you were to ask five different people who I was, you would get five different answers. My parents would proudly describe me as their responsible daughter, who manages to maintain all A’s while balancing a hectic schedule of extracurriculars. If you were to ask my friends, you would hear a wide variety of adjectives, ranging from smart and mature, to crazy, loud, and completely silly. If you were to ask my teachers, you would probably gather a response applauding my ability to always turn in homework. If you were to ask various students and acquaintances, their description of me would include the words “shy,” “quiet,” and possibly “quirky nerd.” However, if you asked me who I was, I would reply “Emily.”
Emily Catherine Magness is my full legal name, and I was born October 1st, 1995 in Houston, Texas. I’ve lived in the same house all of my life, gained and lost friends as much as the next person who’s gone to school with some of the same people since Pre-K, and am a self-described perfectionist (Except in my handwriting—that mess came from who-knows-where). I’ve played tennis competitively since seventh grade, and am prone to spontaneous singing at any given moment, a typical choir kid personality trait. Luckily I have friends that support this, and join in joyfully. I devote a large proportion of my time to schoolwork, of which I complain and whine about and threaten to not do and then end up completing anyway. Some other random facts include: I am prone to sleeping in way past the average human does on weekends, I probably make more cheesy puns than necessary, and I also have an obsession with macaroni and cheese. I also love books, but who has time for that during the school year anyway? It’s all part of the high school experience.
All in all, I am a series of juxtapositions: Quiet yet loud, mature yet childish, and ordinary yet complex. I am me.
