Third Annual Pink Carpet Fashion Show: Celebrating Lives of Breast Cancer Survivors
The Epsilon Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the Wichita State Black Student Union are hosting their third annual Pink Carpet Fashion Show at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 in the CAC Theater. The purpose of this event
is to promote breast cancer awareness, raise money for breast cancer foundations and highlight the unique fashions of
students on campus. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
Each year The Pink Carpet Fashion Show honors a breast cancer survivor and makes a contribution to a charitable organization. This year 25% of the proceeds from the show will go to Witnessing in the Heartland, a group of AfricanAmerican women who are either breast cancer survivors or health supporters. Witnessing in the Heartland, headed by
Gwendolyn DuBose, teaches women about the early detection of breast cancer and how to take care of their bodies.
The Pink Carpet Fashion show started in the fall of 2011. WSU alum and former AKA vice president Cherree Hudspeth and former BSU president Kylan Pew came up with the idea of both organizations doing an event together. Hudspeth’s aunt passed away of breast cancer in the summer of 2011 so she wanted to do something to incorporate breast
cancer awareness. The Pink Carpet Fashion Show wraps up AKA week. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
