thoroughly investigates them ” Linda Stepp said of Pendley . “ He plans the trips so well and he ’ s so considerate . He really takes care of us old ladies .”
The group of seniors ranges in age from 50 to 90 plus and consists of members of First Baptist Church of Somerset as well as other community members .
“ When we get on the van or the bus to go somewhere it ’ s just like a beehive ,” said Pendley , who is the church administrator and worship leader at First Baptist Church in Somerset . “ It ’ s refreshing to watch them .”
The van or bus ride is used
for fellowshipping , catching up with old friends and making new ones .
“ I enjoy the fellowship of going with like-minded people from my church . Some of the people I ’ ve grown up with at church and I enjoy learning more about their families and making new friends too ,” Stepp said . “ It ’ s just nice to be with like-minded people .”
The group pulled out of the church parking lot the morning of Sept . 12 for a day trip of shopping and dining in Franklin , Tenn . When they arrived , the group was excited to find unique and interesting shops where they could purchase treasures while growing friendships .
“ They just have really neat shops and it was a pretty little town ,” said Sandy Smith , who has been going on the senior adult outings for about eight years .
Smith said she decided to start going on the outings not long after her husband died .
“ The trips mean a lot to me ,” she said . “ It gives me something to do after my husband passed away .”
Her favorite shopping spot in Franklin , Tenn . was a shop called Tin Cottage where she purchased a unique deviled egg plate .
