Wow , the stories they can tell us !
As a journalist , any time I have ever meet an elderly individual to do a story on , I have always been amazed by the stories they have told me about their past .
Whether it was serving in the military , living through the Depression , or just simply living in a different era ; their stories always intrigued me .
I am 63 years old , and yes life was a little different in the 1970 ’ s when I was growing up . But hearing about life in the 1960 ’ s and before was much different than they are now .
As adults , it is so easy to get caught up in the ‘ rat race ’. Trying to get ahead at work , trying to stay caught in paying your bills , trying to raise kids , or trying to stay in touch with your friends seems to always consume our daily lives . It is easy to forget about our elders who came before us , and we forget that most of the hard work they accomplished in their younger years has is some way made our lives better .
Whether it was serving in the military and fighting for our freedom , or working long hours to start a new business that friends or family now earn their living at , our local senior citizens have impacted our lives in a positive way .
That is why we should celebrate them , thank them , and do anything we can to make their lives more enjoyable during their ‘ Golden Years ’.
In this year ’ s edition of the Richmond Register ’ s Senior Living Magazine , we will celebrate those special people who came before us .
We will look at the special people working at the Baptist Health Richmond ’ s gift shop , which includes 91-year-old Jane Land .

PACE stands for Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly . Horizon PACE coordinates and provides individualized preventive , primary , urgent and longterm care services so loved ones can continue living in their homes or community . The Horizon Pace location in Richmond serves Madison , Estill , Jackson and Rockcastle Counties .
Proper nutrition is critical to older adults ’ overall vitality , providing energy , helping to control weight , and even preventing and managing some diseases . Experts explain proper nutrition helps health aging .
Financial scams are all around us , but older individuals are more susceptible to scams and are often preyed upon by people trying to take their hard-earned money from them . We will provide some tips for older Americans to protect themselves against financial scams
