BROTHER RICE

Teddy Dunn gives his last words to the rising upper-classmen
From a cycle of online to in-person learning and having to wear a mask in the building , the Class of 2022 has had many twists and turns through four years at Brother Rice . It seems like only yesterday we were meeting our mentor group teachers and finding out what we could ( and couldn ’ t ) do on our iPads .
There will never be memories again like the ones we experienced and shared through these four years . We are the last graduating class to participate in the rushing the court madness chanting “ Friday .” We are the last to participate in the TruFoods strike . And , of course , we experienced the wrath of the Goon Squad take down the Berkley Field bleachers . When asked “ What sets Brother Rice apart from other high schools ?” most Brother Rice students and alumni reply : “ the Brotherhood .” While the building , teachers , and traditions have changed through the years , the bond between all of us has remained strong . Experiencing the Brotherhood at Brother Rice has cemented the bond between us and all who have graduated from Brother Rice . There are four pillars of Rice : Respect , Integrity , Character , and Excellence . But one

principle ties them all together , and it ’ s the Brotherhood .
To the Juniors : remember you soon will be in our shoes . As you are finishing what some say is : “ the toughest year in high school , try to cherish all you can while you are still here .” The time for you to move on from Brother Rice feels far away , but , honestly , it is right around the corner . You are the next captains for our sports teams , and the next leaders of the student section at football games . Connect and build bonds with new people and find joy in all that you do . Don ’ t be afraid to do something new at Brother Rice because the opportunities to start new clubs and make friends are endless . The little conversations between classes and small hilarious moments won ’ t be around when you leave , so take advantage of them now . Senior year may not be as easy as you think but try to have a little fun and enjoy yourself .
To the Sophomores : start preparing for Junior year as soon as you can . Get those grades up now so you can have an endless amount of options for college . Your parents and teachers will notice the hard work you put in , and it will all be worth it in the end .

Remember ESEN (“ every subject every night ”) in order to stay on top of all your assignments and tests . Try to branch out and find a club or sport out of your comfort zone to push yourself . You may find interests or passions you never thought you ’ d enjoy .
To the Freshman : good job completing your first year here . One piece of advice is to learn to set yourself apart from the crowd and be different . Don ’ t just be another person in the crowd ; be a leader . This may seem scary , but you don ’ t always have be a follower . Make your own path and do what is right for you .
Finally , to the Seniors : we hope you prosper wherever you find yourself after high school . Never forget the countless memories and lessons Brother Rice has taught you . While you might think of the countless quizzes Mr . Riker gave or the quote quizzes we crammed for , think about all the events and people that made these four years so special . We can confidently say every single class member is a brother in one way or another . Always hold the values and lessons of Brother Rice in your heart and you will truly be an honorable man . Remember that you can ’ t go back in time , so leave a lasting mark on every person that comes your way . Most importantly , Live , Jesus , in our hearts forever !
