Universal Mountable Heads
IALR
The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in conjunction with Virginia Tech ’ s Departments of Mechanical Engineering , and Horticulture , developed SMART testbeds which are precision imaging platforms to record and track plant growth . The SMART beds provide insight to plant population responses to environmental stimuli without harm to the plant and under controlled conditions . Students were tasked to develop and implement a set of universal mountable heads for testing soil characteristics , and for the cameras themselves .
