FOR PARENTS / CARERS
This point in the year marks a very important stage in the educational life of S3, 4 and 5
students. S3 students move into the Senior Phase and make decisions about the subjects
they will study for their National Qualifications. S4 and S5 students decide whether they are
going to stay on at school to widen their National Qualifications and if so, which subjects
they will study.
This booklet has been prepared so that you know what subjects are being offered in S4, S5
and S6 and what they involve. Over the next few weeks we will take great care to ensure
that your son/daughter makes the correct choices.
Each student will be given an option form to bring home which will provide them, and you,
with information about all the courses and levels that are available in the Senior Phase. In
addition, subject teachers will explain to students the courses on offer in their department.
You will also receive information in your son/daughter’s report from subject teachers
indicating the appropriate level of study.
On Monday 25th February (for S5), Tuesday 26th February (for S4) and Wednesday 27 th &
Friday 1 St March (for S3) your son/daughter should bring in their completed option form to
school and they will have a personal interview with one of the senior management team to
discuss their course choices. The option form should be signed and returned to Mrs Fleming
no later than Monday 4th March. Parents/carers are welcome to accompany their child
to this interview.
