“ It ’ s good for us seniors ,” Schwinghammer mentioned . “ It is great to help maintain and work on our memory , and it is a low key aerobic . It ’ s also simply fun , which is the main reason that I enjoy dancing and teaching .”
As a first time instructor , Schwinghammer also enjoys watching the progress that her students are making from week to week .
“ I enjoy watching people find an interest in line dancing , and watching them learn and grow ,” she said .
It is also a great social opportunity for anyone who might be interested .
“ It ’ s definitely something to look forward to . I ’ m retired , so each week I look forward to the class and getting to know more people ,” she added .
The students seem to be enjoying the classes . “ They keep coming back , so they must enjoy it ,” Schwinghammer said with a laugh .
Safety precautions
To be safe during the COVID-19 pandemic , people are wearing masks when they enter the history center and in close spaces . However , once the class begins , everyone is able to spread out in the room and take off their masks , because they are exercising .
Dance classes
Classes are free and open to the public .
Thursdays through Oct . 29 from 9 to 10:30 a . m . at the Dassel History Center .
Schwinghammer noted , “ We can safely have 75 people in the room , so there is plenty of room for more dancers .”
You don ’ t need to wear cowboy boots or special outfits to get into the spirit of country western line dancing , although Schwinghammer noted that she had six pairs herself . This is a great opportunity to get some exercise , meet some new people , work on your memory , and simply be yourself .
“ Fun is the big word for me ,” Schwinghammer said . “ If it ’ s not going to be fun , I don ’ t want to do it . Country western line dancing is fun .”
