one entry . Another entry stated , “ 1960 , spring wheat 6 acres on the 15th .”
Along with the little black books were old blueprints and sketches from when they built the farm buildings . There were also piles of old newspapers and owner ’ s manuals , including one for a 1910 spreader . Kelli sorted through each one . Some manuals were in rough shape , while others were salvageable . She went through all the newspapers and saved the ones that contained news from important historic events .
The buildings are treasures in themselves . The wood used to construct the buildings is different than the lumber used today . “ You can actually see the bark ,” Kelli said . The floors in the granary are Maple and Oak . As she was cleaning up in the granary , she looked up and saw a piece of wood that says “ A Schultz ” on it .
“ So , that would date back to the 1870s , when they cut trees down and brought it to the neighbors who milled it and brought it all back .”
A daunting task
Because Kelli has been off since mid-March , she ’ s been the primary person cleaning and organizing at

the farm . Her siblings and other family members help as much as they can .
“ You could spend all day in there and barely make a dent ,” Kelli said , “ but it ’ s not like it ’ s really work since I grew up on the farm .
The property is going through probate , so the goal is to complete the project before they do the transfer of property . The farm will probably stay in the family , most likely going to someone younger .
“ The younger generation doesn ’ t want that stuff in there ,” Kelli said . “ They don ’ t have the time to go through four generations of nuts and bolts .” She anticipates having the task done sometime this fall .
It makes Kelli happy knowing that the young people think some of the stuff is cool and that “ some stuff from the farm is going to live on .”
