Dance classes offered Thursdays in Dassel

Sue Schwinghammer began participating in a country western line dance class while spending the winter in Arizona . She attended classes three days a week for three years .
Schwinghammer and Dassel History Center Director Carolyn Holje talked about bringing line dancing classes to Dassel .
“ Last year , Carolyn asked me to do it , and I said , ‘ I don ’ t think so ,’” Schwinghammer said with a chuckle . “ But this year , with everyone being inside due to CO- VID-19 , I thought it would be fun to start a class .”
The classes are free , open to the public , and occur every Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a . m . at the Dassel History Center . The classes started July 9 , and will continue through Oct . 29 .
All abilities welcome
What exactly does a typical class look like ? The class is for beginners , so there is no reason to be intimidated by the difficulty .
“ We initially start with what the steps look like , the basic steps , practice for a while , and then add some music . We repeat these steps over and over again to different songs to keep practicing ,” Schwinghammer explained .
Each week , the group will go over a song , practice without the music to help refresh everyone ’ s memory , and then put it to music .
In the past couple of months , they have learned seven or eight songs to help keep the classes fresh . However , all the songs have the same basic steps , so someone new
