Mr. E retires after 43 years at Holy Trinity

Marv Ebensperger hasn’t added up the number of
students he’s taught at Holy Trinity High School in
Winsted the past four decades, but it’s definitely a
lot.
“I still remember a bunch of those first students,”
Ebensperger said. “Some of them have become
friends over the years. . . and some of them are retir-
ing, also.”
Ebensperger (also known as Mr. E) retired May
25, after 43 years teaching math and science at Holy
Trinity. One career highlight was when students had
“aha!” moments.
“There isn’t a light bulb, but it’s almost like that,”
Ebensperger said. “I love that. Seeing a student who
has been struggling a little and then gets it, i t makes
it all worthwhile.”

different, and each group
is different.’

Another highlight was getting to know the students,
especially outside of the classroom. For 40 years, Eb-
ensperger coached junior varsity and c-squad boys
basketball, which gave him opportunities to see stu-
dents “in a whole different light.”
Ebensperger didn’t always know he’d love teaching
and coaching.
As a high school student growing up in Plumb City,
WI, Ebensperger was interested in math and science.
After exploring his options
while attending college at
the University of Wiscon-
sin, River Falls, he decided
to pursue teaching.
Before starting his ca-
reer, Ebensperger spent
three years in the military,
where he was assigned to
Fort Bragg in North Caro-
lina.
Then, in 1975, he ac-
cepted a teaching position
at Holy Trinity. Ebens-
perger said he had been
looking for something
near the Twin Cities, and
he liked the Winsted area.
Mostly, though, he liked
the people he met.
“I made friends right
away,” he recalled.

classes offered
The Senior LinkAge Line, through the Minnesota River Area Agency on Ag-
ing (MNRAAA), is sponsoring a class for people who will soon be eligible for
Medicare.
Classes will take place in room 306 at Hutchinson Middle School, 1365 South
Grade Road in Hutchinson, the second Wednesday of the month.
Participants will learn the basics of Medicare and their coverage options in
Minnesota. They will also learn how to research these options using non-biased
tools.
There are important decisions that need to be made when one becomes eli-
gible for Medicare.
Making the wrong decision can lead to not having any, or enough health care
coverage, and financial penalties.
