for their benefi t,” the Fowlers
stated.
The program is also de-
signed to be budget-conscious, presenting recipes that provide good, balanced nu-
trition for about $4 per meal.
Evelyn is busily researching recipes for the kick-off week in August, having al-
ready decided upon one of the three dishes. “I will need to make Jim the guinea pig
to fi nd out what tastes really good,” she said.
She is focused on selecting foods that are appealing to local residents. She recog-
nizes that every area of the state, every community has different tastes. So, while
canned venison might be popular in Bemidji, it might be less commonplace here in
central Minnesota.
Evelyn plans to publicize each month’s recipes in advance, so participants will
know the menu prior to each session, which she hopes will provide more entice-
ment if participants know what is coming.
The goals of Friends in the Kitchen are straightforward: affordability, simplicity,
better taste, and good nutrition.

Tips for choosing the right reading glasses

as in most drugstores, are great
for correcting presbyopia (com-
monly known as far-sighted-
ness). If you need a new pair of
glasses to help you see up close,
here are a few things to consider.
