DECORATIONS from Pg 2 top of an urn or other decorative planter may look pretty as well. If you would like to place the luminary on an ice pillar, they are pretty simple to make. Use PVC pipes in any width you choose. Using duct tape, seal one of the ends so it is water tight. Add fl owers, and then fi ll with water and freeze. To get the pillar out, run the frozen pipe under hot water until it slides out easily. Plant the pillars fi rmly in the snow or ground at least six inches deep. Level the top of the pillar by shaving off some of the ice with a fl at kitchen grater. Put a little snow on top of the pillar and spray the snow with water, then place the luminary on top of the wet snow. It should freeze into place. There are endless ideas about how to make these. Try adding food coloring, glitter, pine- cones, or anything else you can think of. They are fun to make, and even better to look at when you light the fi re. If you have a windy area, try placing holiday lights around the lumi- nary to achieve a nice glow. Gather Greens Look no further than your yard for wonder- ful winter containers. Cut branches, vines, dried hydrangeas, red twig dogwood, and other dried fl owers on nature walks. Arrange in a container that is fi lled with sand or gravel, add water and let it freeze outside.
