The values Scoblic tries to instill in his players have helped him build a culture of excellence .
“ I don ’ t know that I ever had a specific culture in mind , but I always felt that I was raised to take responsibility for your own actions and to do your best to do what is right all of the time ,” he said . “ Those are things that my parents taught me that I try to instill on the football field and in the classroom .”
Scoblic said he welcomes open communication between his coaches and players .
“ When I hire assistants I tell them all the time that it is okay to disagree with me . We can have very adult conversations in my office and disagree , that is okay ,” he said . “ Sometimes I listen and sometimes I don ’ t , but it is important for me to hear the other side , and most of the time I do listen because I have always thought others are a lot smarter than I am .”
“ If I can grow from these other ideas , then that is what I want to do ,” he said . “ So I hope that the assistant coaches always feel they can speak up , and if the players have something great to say then they can too , as long as they do it in the proper way . I ’ m not the doall , tell-all ; I am just a simple-minded guy from South Dakota and I love what I am doing .”
