MEMORABILIA SPOTLIGHT
FRANK SINATRA
1940
T
he legendary “Chairman of the Board” defined
traditional American pop and swing styles , was the
very first “teen idol” and became one of the most iconic
figures in history. Frank’s larger-than-life persona is so
ingrained in our culture, that it’s easy to overlook how
truly gifted he was as a vocalist and lyric interpreter.
Sinatra’s 60-year career had many highlights, but most
agree that his best work was done in the 1950s when he
collaborated with bandleader Nelson Riddle on classic
albums like “Songs for Swinging Lovers” and “In the Wee
Small Hours”. The wool-and-silk blazer on display was
custom-tailored for Frank Sinatra in 1982.
JACKSON 5
1970
W
hen the Jackson 5 made
their Motown Records
debut in 1969, the pop
world was forever changed.
The release introduced the
world to a force of nature
called Michael Jackson. In
the years that followed, the
Jackson 5 dominated the pop
charts with hits like “I Want
You Back”, “ABC” and “I’ll Be
There”. In 1979, the group – now known simply as the Jacksons – embarked on an ambitious world tour in
support of their smash album ‘Destiny’. These outfits were worn by Michael, Tito, Jackie, Randy and Marlon
during the tour. Michael’s mega-platinum solo album, ‘Off the Wall’, was released during the tour – forcing the
group to rework their set list to accommodate the new hit singles from Michael’s album.
