THE ILLINOIS PARABLES

SINOPSE / SYNOPSIS
Um documentário experimental composto de
vinhetas regionais sobre fé, força, tecnologia
e êxodo. Onze parábolas retratam histórias de
assentamento, remoção, avanço tecnológico,
violência, messianismo e resistência no estado
de Illinois. O estado é um conveniente arraso
estrutural, permitindo que essas histórias se
tornem alegorias que tanto nos exploram como
nos moldam por convicção e ideologia.
An experimental documentary comprised
of regional vignettes about faith, force,
technology and exodus. Eleven parables relay
histories of settlement, removal, technological
breakthrough, violence, messianism and
resistance, all occurring somewhere in the state
of Illinois. The state is a convenient structural
ruse, allowing its histories to become allegories
that explore how we’re shaped by conviction
and ideology.

Artista e cineasta de Chicago interessada
em paisagens e sistemas. Já exibiu
internacionalmente em locais como o MoMA
NY, Centro Pompidou, Museu Hammer, União
Mercer, Witte de With, Whitney Bienal e
festivais como Sundance, Viennale, CPH:DOX,
Oberhausen, Ann Arbor, Full Frame, Roterdã
e Berlim. Mora em Chicago, onde leciona na
Universidade de Illinois.

She is a Chicago-based artist and filmmaker
interested in landscapes and systems. She has
exhibited internationally at venues including
MoMA NY, Centre Pompidou, Hammer
Museum, Mercer Union, Witte de With, the
Whitney Biennial and festivals including
Sundance, Viennale, CPH/DOX, Oberhausen,
Ann Arbor, Full Frame, Rotterdam and Berlinale.
She lives in Chicago where she teaches at the
University of Illinois.
