SINOPSE / SYNOPSIS
Maurício Dias e Walter Riedweg convidaram
um grupo de cariocas para reencenar, em
diálogo com a cultura do funk, nove ilustrações
de Hans Staden, incluídas em um de seus
livros. Considerado o primeiro relato de viagem
ao Brasil, o livro descreve os dias que o autor
passou como refém dos Tupinambá. Nessa
versão monocanal de uma instalação em três
telas, os dançarinos, em um churrasco na lage,
reencenam algumas das imagens arquetípicas
que contribuíram para a construção da
imagem de exotismo do povo brasileiro.

Maurício Dias and Walter Riedweg invited
a group of people from Rio de Janeiro to
reenact, in a dialogue with funk culture, nine
illustrations by Hans Staden, included in one
of his books. Considered the first report of
travel to Brazil, the book describes the days
that the author spent as a hostage of the
Tupinambá tribe. In this single-channel version
of a three-screen installation, the dancers, in
a favela rooftop barbecue, re-enact some of
the archetypal images that contributed to the
construction of the exotic image of the Brazilian

A dupla Maurício Dias (Brasil, 1964) e Walter
Riedweg, (Suíça, 1955) realiza projetos
colaborativos públicos, performances, vídeos
e instalações. Combinando vídeo, etnografia e
performance para abordar questões políticas
e sociais, os artistas tecem em seus trabalhos
uma série de relações entre um contexto de
globalização econômica e formas colonialismo.
Já expuseram nas bienais de Veneza, de São
Paulo, na Documenta de Kassel e têm obras
em coleções de importantes instituições no
Brasil, na Europa e nos EUA.

Riedweg (Switzerland, 1955) perform
public collaborative projects, performances,
videos and installations. Combining video,
ethnography and performance to address
political and social issues, the artists weave in
their work a series of relationships between a
context of economic globalization and forms of
colonialism. They have already exhibited at the
Venice and São Paulo Biennales at Documenta
in Kassel and have works in collections of
important institutions in Brazil, Europe and
the US.
