If You Don't Ask, You Won't Get
There is no need to be shy, I am not that shy really, so when I stated taking photos at an old train station, I asked the station master to turn on the lights, and he did...
I bought this flowing, long blue satin skirt, which i wanted to use for a photoshoot, and one warm October evening I went out in it, teamed with blue high heels and a black lace top, paired together this looked like such a pretty outfit.
I went out without any particular plan in mind, the previous evening I visited a ruined church, it was windy but the images didn't really do much for me, so I went out the next evening and found myself in Sandringham Park, the Queens back garden here in Norfolk.
I started by taking some images among the autumnal colours on the trees, and various other locations in the park, but reviewing the images soon after, I knew I could do better, so I got in my car and only drove a mile or so down the road to Wolferton.
Wolferton has an old train station, it is still in use today, but it is a Royal station, and the Queen uses this to get to her Sandringham Estate every December for Christmas.
The light was fading fast so I knew I had to be quick. I exited my car so fast, picking my camera and tripod up along the way and off I went, heels clattering in my wake, skirt flowing in the gentle breeze.
I took some self portraits and they were absolutely fine, I would have been more than happy with these.
And then the station master approached me, and we had a little chat, he was intrigued by my photography, and before we parted, I asked politely if he could please turn on the platform lights.
He did, and what a transformation!
Those platform lights really set the scene up perfectly, and I knew there and then that I was onto a winner.
I didn't need to take too many as I knew I was spoiled for choice now, but the best image from that shoot remains one of my favourite self portraits ever.
