STATION 3
Corozo Trail
Tangled
On your walk, you will observe
many lianas or vines, which are
common in old forests. They are
incapable of holding themselves up
and need the support of the trees.
Vines grow faster than many other
plants, but they require more time for
their stems to thicken. Can you find a
vine as thick as your arm?
The leaves, flowers, and fruits of these
plants are at the top of the forest. To get
there, they must travel a long distance
from the ground, where they germinate
and have their roots.

Water vine and fruits
Doliocarpus multiflorus
Did you know… The “water vine” is called such
because, when cut, water flows from the inside.
The name of the genus Doliocarpus means
“with deceptive fruits” - its fruits appear
appetizing, but they are poisonous.
