The Channel Islands are one of the west coast’s most beautiful landmarks. This national park consists of five of
the eight islands off the southern California coast. Channel Islands National Park is home to a wide variety of
significant natural and cultural resources.
Channel Islands National Park is renowned for its large number of complex and beautiful sea caves. Based on
ocean conditions and ferry availability, Scorpion Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island is the most visited area in the
park for kayakers and camping. Inspiration Point on Anacapa Island boasts spectacular views and the majestic
rock formations at Cathedral Point are often inhabited by large groups of sea lions. Summer is the most
popular season for visitors with perfect weather and Humpback Whale watching opportunities as they migrate
north. Early fall is considered the best time for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and swimming with ocean
temperatures averaging 70 degrees and underwater visibility reaching up to 100 feet.
The park offers a wide variety of recreation activities; kayaking through sea caves being the most popular.
Whether it’s kayaking, backpacking, camping, day hiking, scuba diving, or spearfishing, there is something for
everyone to enjoy at Channel Islands National Park.
