- AN INSIDE LOOK - A NUGGET IN A BE AUTIFUL HOME IN NE The beautiful town of Nevada City, California was first settled in 1849 during the California Gold Rush. The Gold Tunnel on the north side of Deer Creek was the city’s first mine and the main source of income for the early settlers. The town of Nevada was incorporated on April 19, 1856, and the word city was added to the name to relieve confusion with the nearby state of Nevada. The town has legally been known as Nevada City ever since. Later the former town of Coyoteville, California became Nevada City’s northwestern section of town.
