it to Chrysler Red Raspberry and Toyota Super White .”
The car belongs to a class known as the Tri-Fives – Chevys that were built in the years 1955 , 56 and 57 .
That means that even though his current car was made in a different year from his very first car ( 1955 for the current car , 1957 for the one in his teenage years ), the cars are very similar .
There are a few differences . Godsey explained , “ They [ Tri- Fives ] were all basically about the same car except for the body design outside . The 57 had the fins on it where this is more of a boxy look .” His first car was a fourdoor as well , whereas this one only has two doors .
But the one in his possession now reminds him a lot of that car he drove back in high school .
His main memories of owning that 1957 version were of his younger self driving it to school at Somerset High School – which was actually a short trip , since he only lived in Oaklawn at that time .
“ Sometimes we ’ d drive to school and park out on the street , then walk home to eat lunch , because if we moved we ’ d lose our parking space ,” he joked . “ They didn ’ t have the senior parking lot or junior parking lot like they have now . You just had to find you a place to park and that was it .”
After school let out , Godsey remembers driving around town in it .
“ We ’ d cruise around a little , unless Mom had something we had to do at home . Of course , back then you had Jerry ’ s and Finley ’ s . We ’ d cruise those areas , stop and get something to drink . We ’ d hardly ever eat a bite , because we were always home that night for supper with the family ,” he said .
Godsey said his father bought him the car in 1958 , and he kept it until 1970 , when he sold it .
“ Some guy drove it , and it was kind of ‘ Out of sight , out of mind .’ I didn ’ t see it anymore after that ,” Godsey said .
