There were some internal changes , too . More modern brakes replaced the drum brakes , and “ vintage heating and air ” was put in to make it more comfortable .
“ It was originally a six-cylinder , three speed on the column , but after a while I decided I wanted something I could drive a little more ,” he said . So in went a V8 motor with an automatic transmission . Lap seatbelts were added , too , to make it a little safer .
“ Back then you could have ordered it with seat belts , but most people didn ’ t do it . It wasn ’ t high priority back then like they are now ,” he said .
His son , Phillip , was just 10 years old when the family bought it , and Phillip had the pleasure of driving it when he was older , but more work needed to be done on in after someone rear-ended the car
