Cruisin ’ in style :
David Godsey ’ s 1955 Chevy is a staple of Somernites Cruise

Most people remember their first car – that feeling of freedom getting behind the wheel and knowing , or at least dreaming , it can take you anywhere you want to go . Should you go cruising ? Do you want to get a bite to eat at the local burger joint ? Or , is it time to get to school , and driving is the best option among walking or riding the bus ?
While David Godsey doesn ’ t have his first car still , he managed to buy one similar to it , and he ’ s kept it for 38 years now .
The Somerset city councilman and team member of Somernites Cruise has brought his treasured car – a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air – to just about every show the cruise has done , he said .
“ If I didn ’ t take it , it ’ s been because it ’ s pouring the rain or bad whether ,” he said .
The Bel Air has only had a few owners in its time . Godsey bought it from Joe Burton and his mother , Mary Burton , on September 13 , 1984 . Godsey has that written down and is quick to give it to an interviewer when asked about it .
