There ’ s no time of year quite like the holiday season .
For me , it ’ s easily my favorite time of year . From the wonderful table full of food at Thanksgiving , to the magic of Christmas — the music , the decorations , the specials we watch every year like clockwork — and even the festivities of New Year ’ s Eve , the revelry of the November-December stretch is unmatched .
That ’ s what we celebrate in this edition of Southeast Kentucky Magazine — this special time on the calendar .
We ’ ll share with you the story of a family-run Christmas tree farm right here in Pulaski County — a little taste of the north pole off Ky . 192 . And then there ’ s the story of another local entrepreneur seeking to light up the community — literally .
The Home for the Holidays Tour helps raise money to give local families in need one of the greatest gifts of all — their very own home to live in — and Burnside Island transforms into Christmas Island again this year , re-establishing what was an old local tradition .
Then there are the other sides of the holidays . Carla Slavey takes a look at how this season is spent by people who celebrate something in addition to Christmas — in this case , Kwanzaa . And Eli Parker talks to a mental health professional who gives advice on getting along with family members during what can sometimes be a stressful time of year .

This is our Christmas gift to you — a new edition of Southeast Kentucky magazine . Unwrap the pages inside and enjoy ! holidays !
