There is a specific dorm for the elementary kids , he said . There is one for the older students , and then there ’ s the honor dorm .
“ If you were in honor dorm , you were very independent and self sufficient . You knew what you needed to do ,” he said .
All the students had assignments for keeping their living areas clean . “ We had to keep our rooms clean ,” he said . “ And everybody had a duty every month . It might be straightening up the linens , folding towels . We had clothes pressed every day and washed Monday through Friday .”
Dowlen was there from 1974 until his graduation in 1978 .
He said he would stay for three weeks at a time , then on the fourth weekend students would have a long weekend where they were able to go home and spend time with their families .
