Local families have business in the blood

Small , family owned businesses are the backbone of this great nation of ours . And we at Southeast Kentucky Magazine salute them . This edition features a particular focus on businesses that are formed and strengthened by the familial bond .
We ’ ll learn about the Urban Stillhouse in Florida , owned and operated by Meredith Koko — daughter of Horse Soldier Bourbon ’ s John Koko , already a familiar name ( and face ) in Somerset . Through the restaurant , the Kokos are expanding the Horse Soldier brand , and work is currently underway to bring another of these world-class eateries to the Fountain Square , right here in our fair town .
Darrell and Amberly Dicey are the husband and wife team behind Dicey Aviation , which offers flight instruction that helps people soar to new personal heights . Their story is in this issue , as is that of Cody and his father Delynn Gibson , who have teamed up to bring the quality workmanship of Barrier Roofs to Somerset .
Lakeside Primary Care was started by sisters hoping to bring quality treatment to the Burnside area , and MJ ’ s Casual Dining is the effort of Melanie and John Hite to give hungry Pulaskians a unique dining option in the Somerset Mall .
That ’ s just a taste of what ’ s inside this month ’ s SEKY Magazine , including another reader poll , an Artist Spotlight on local actor Thomas Alvey , 50 years of the United Way , and much more .
They say family is everything , and “ everything ” includes the business world . With the people you trust most by your side , it ’ s hard to fail — and we love to see local families succeed .
Enjoy !
