providers and involve clients accessing care by calling a central department who takes care of collecting basic information and quickly moving the caller into services . A mental health appointment may sound scary , but it is not much different than seeking services with any other healthcare provider . When you call for an appointment , here are a few things to keep in mind :
• Screening - the first step in the process is to complete a screening ; the screening helps our staff know whether you need immediate services or can be scheduled for a later date ; basic contact information will be collected .
• Once the screening has been completed , the caller will need to complete an “ Intake ” appointment to open a medical record with the agency . Most Intake appointments are completed via telehealth to get you into services faster .
• If your “ intake ” appointment is done via telehealth from your home , you will be asked to provide a verbal consent for services , and then asked to sign an authorization packet at your next in person visit at the clinic or to make arrangements to sign at a later date , even if you continue with telehealth services . Telehealth equipment is available at all Adanta locations for those who do not have access to a smartphone or who may struggle with technology . You will sign in ( either in-person or virtually ), sit in the waiting room and wait for someone to call your name or logon . While waiting , you will likely need to fill out paperwork called an authorization packet , including HIPAA forms , Insurance Information , Medical History , a questionnaire about your symptoms and a consent for treatment .
• Your first session with the therapist / intake coordinator will be different from future visits . The initial visit is a time to collect important information about you that will help guide your course of treatment . Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature . Often times , the therapist that you see for the first visit will not be the therapist that you will continue to work with for treatment . The Intake Coordinator is much like the nurse who collects vital information about your visit before you see the doctor .
• Keep in mind , therapy usually requires multiple visits , so don ’ t expect any instant solutions to your problems the first day . Therapy is about equipping you with long term solutions , and not a quick fix .
• During the first session , your therapist may ask you : what are your symptoms , what brought you to therapy , what do you feel is wrong with your life .
Therapy :
• After the first “ getting to know you better ” session , you will be scheduled with a therapist who will begin working through the information you shared in your first visit . You and your therapist should also come to an agreement about the length of your treatment and what your treatment will consist of .
• Therapy is very individualized . Depending on your issue and therapy goals , therapy can last a few sessions , weeks , or years .
• It is likely your therapist will use cognitive behavioral therapy which focuses on making connections between thoughts , behavior or feelings .
• Your therapist may refer you to additional services like seeing the psychiatrist / APRN for medication management , case management , peer support , etc .
The Central Scheduling and Intake Department ’ s goal is to help you connect with services as smoothly and quickly as possible . The dedicated staff are ready to answer your questions and get you scheduled . As the staff in the Department may be assisting other callers , you may be asked to leave your contact information for a call back .
