Instagram ), and he is also doing group classes based on interest .
Alvey grew up on a small horse farm in Edmonson , Ky ., and went on to Lindsey Wilson College , earning a double Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and Media Studies in 2019 . He went on to Point Park University where he received a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for the Screen and Stage .
Acting hadn ’ t been in his blood all his life , but rather the bug bit him still fairly young in 2011 , when a friend asked if he wanted to tag along to an audition at the Capitol Arts Youth Theatre in Bowling Green .
“ I had no idea what was going on , but I went ,” he said . “ I have no idea what I did for that audition , but it was for an adaptation of ‘ The Odyssey ’ by Homer but it was themed Cirque Du Soleil style for the set and costuming . All of the cast designed our own costumes , and it was this fun atmosphere where we had to do the work but got to play .
“ That ’ s why I love theater ,” he added , “ because you get to play and to put yourself in a new world , if even for a moment .”

Since coming to Somerset though and becoming part of the Flashback Theater Co . family , Alvey has seen his opportunities grow . He ’ s played Hamlet in “ Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead ,” Det . Trotter in “ The Mousetrap ,” and Joseph , the earthly father of Jesus , in the original “ Mary : Her Story ,” which debuted this May .
But like all actors , Alvey has his favorites , including Peter from “ The Zoo Story ,” because “ I was one of two actors and was the one who didn ’ t speak as much , so I got to explore physical acting and reactions that I wouldn ’ t normally have ,” he said . “ I also really loved playing Blake in ( Flashback ’ s ) ‘ Hazard County ’ because it challenged me as an actor and a person , I explored morality through race , and it was done during the pandemic , so it challenged everything I knew about theater .
“ The parts I like to play are usually the ones that are quirky and have dynamic emotions and reactions throughout whatever production I ’ m in ,” he said . “ I also really love playing against my own
