“ It ’ s kind of a new area and people are still getting used to it ,” Weston said of MedPark West . “... That can be a benefit to patients too because we have more time to spend with them and get to know them .”
“ We really want to try to fill a void of whatever the community needs ... versus them having to go out of town ,” Jody added . “ With the sterile compounding that Weston is doing , there are things people were having to drive to Lexington or Louisville in order to get .”
Continuing with the theme of testing , the pharmacy also provides strep testing and treatment without the patient having to go into a doctor ’ s office .
“ Being a mom , I see a huge advantage to that ,” Jody explained . “ The last thing you want to do when you have sick kids and you think they have strep is go and sit in a doctor ’ s office . We have an order where we can go ahead and give them antibiotics if they test positive for strep .”
In addition to the point-of-care testing ,
the pharmacy offers genetic testing for people who are curious about how their makeup impacts their health or how they metabolize a particular medication .
“ A lot of people that benefit from that are cancer patients or also psych patients ... to where a lot of time it ’ s a matter trial and error as far as therapy and treatment goes ,” Jody said , adding that the test consists of a cheek swab with results coming back in about 10 days . “ If we know their DNA and how they metabolize things , then it helps out as far as their regimen goes .”
In terms of other services , Advance Care Pharmacy also carries its own vitamin line , offers free delivery , med synching and bubble packs .
“ We have two or three different kinds of pill packs that we can do to keep adherence up and keep everyone on track with their meds ,” Weston said . “ We try to offer a lot of services and be versatile for people .”
