“ It ’ s our greatest fundraiser of the year usually ,” Cox said .
Last year , they were one of the first organizations to be able to hold their event because it was scheduled for a time when events and the economy were being opened back up , she said .
They had additional sponsors in the community that stepped up to help , with some providing sanitizer on the golf carts so that participants could take the safety measures they felt necessary while still being able to have fun .
All of the money raised at these events are given back to the community through partner organizations such as the American Red Cross .
The United Way ’ s board of directors , made up of representatives from many of the corporate or community partners involved in the organization , create a special committee to review applications submitted by partner agencies .
That committee looks to see where the greatest needs are in the community and makes sure that the organizations that apply for funding are using their money int the best
ways possible . “ When you donate to United Way , you can trust that we ’ re doing the work to make sure your money is going where you want it to , to agencies you trust who are doing good work in our communities ,” Cox said .
Board members come from local industries and businesses such as Hendrickson , a fabrication company located on Pin Oak Drive in Somerset .
Their long-time representative , Amy Brockman , stepped down recently , and new Hendrickson representative Karen Waters decided to step up and get involved .
Waters said she has always served in a volunteer roll in the community , but with the graduation of her daughter this year , she said she had more time to devote to community involvement .
Cox added : “ Hendrickson has been a long time partner of United Way , and not just for campaigns . They reach out to us often when they have employees that are in need . One of the reasons why they do a campaign is because that they want to know that there is a resource available if any of their staff or any of their staff ’ s contacts need assistance . They want to know that there is somewhere locally that they
