Operation Angel Care
The Somerset Junior Woman ’ s Club ( SJWC ) has hosted its Angel Tree and Operation Angel Care for more than 12 years now , according to organizers Melanie King and Wynona Padgett . And this year will be bigger than ever .
As of mid-November , the organization has right at 1,000 names of children , King said .
Added Padgett , “ That ’ s more than we ’ ve ever had .”
In fact , last year they helped around 950 kids .
The Angel Tree is a simple premise . Cards decorate trees at businesses all around Pulaski . Each of those cards holds the name of one child , and each of those children come from families that need help buying Christmas gifts for them this year .
Why the large number this year ? According to King , it ’ s due in part to the COVID pandemic .
“ In talking with the family resource officers , a lot of families have been very affected by COVID ,” she said . “ With having COVID , and getting behind , because one parent is in the hospital and the other parent is having to take off work to take care of the children and everything else
