mid-November that the 2021 shopping season may be starting off slow , but they both predicted that it would take off around Thanksgiving ’ s “ Black Friday ” sales and stay busy on through till Christmas Eve .
Travis Gibson , general manager of Bookland , said he felt the slow start to the holiday season was due to many places drawing out their specials and sales long before Black Friday got here .
“ Other companies [ are ] offering deals longer up until Black Friday , and nobody ’ s really waiting until Black Friday to have sales . They ’ re just doing it weekly through the whole entire month ,” he said .
Cassy Richardson , general manager of Hibbett Sports , said sales may be slow during the hours most people work , but said things are picking up during the evenings and weekends .
Both managers said their stores were already stocking up for the expected rush of Christmas shoppers .
Richardson said that even in early November , she was getting customers who said the items they bought were gifts for others .
But on top of gearing up and stocking up for shoppers , Hibbett Sports has been busy making some in-store alterations , Richardson said .
The store has seen some renovations and remodeling , she said . “ It ’ s been a little bit hectic the last couple of days with that .”
