it all together .
Despite the thoroughness of his work , Winsett claims he enjoys the challenge of it , deeming it a “ release ” for him .
“ Suddenly , I ’ m just into the art and nothing else ,” he says . “ Just for a while , I just kind of escape . It ’ s my own world . I can make it whatever I want .”
As for his musical talents , they ’ re almost parallel to those he carries with the visual arts as well . He compares the two artistic expressions , saying they ’ re “ both equal because they ’ re both completely different .” To him , it ’ s all about starting with an idea and building up from there , just in completely different means .
And much like his knack for painting , he was brought into the world of music by his parents . Since then , he ’ s learned a multitude of instruments , such as guitar , bass , fiddle , and the drums . While claiming he can “ play anything ,”
Winsett says he feels more drawn to blues and rock .
Jay York , a local musician that ’ s played alongside Winsett , speaks fondly of the musician , labeling him as an “ excellent guitar and fiddle player and just an all-around fine human being .”
Prior to playing with just local talents , including his church ’ s worship team , Winsett ’ s own talents took him on the road in the 80 ’ s alongside country musician Eddie Ray Arnold . Their band would open for several famous groups like The Oak Ridge Boys , Alabama , and Greenwood . They even performed at the Grand Ole Opry and played on several media outlets , such as “ New Country ,” “ Hee Haw ,” and “ Nashville Now .”
But these days , Winsett has found joy being settled down in Somerset , developing his portfolio , selling his work , and connecting with the community through his many talents .
