by and large , customers buy a vehicle as a need . However , on the motorsports side , it is probably closer to 50 / 50 ‘ need versus want ’ buyers . You have 50 % that come in , like your farmer that does need the UTV , which would be the Polaris Ranger or the Honda Pioneer , and now the Kawasaki Mule . These are very much a farm utility type vehicle , places that you can ’ t take your truck .”
Lake Cumberland Motorsports has a large selection of new and used inventory , which includes Honda , Polaris , and Kawasaki . They also offer a good selection of accessories including Fox racing gear , Oakley riding googles , Thor googles , and a unique selection of motorsport vehicle cleaning supplies . Lake Cumberland Motorsports also carries a nice selection of riding helmets and all the other body safety gear one might need .
Blakley explained that they are currently working to expand and upgrade their current building and showroom , which was formerly the Alton Blakley Auto Outlet .
“ Right now we have our main showroom , which was our former auto outlet location ,” Trey Blakley explained .
“ The facility will get a full renovation . We are knocking down all the walls to accommodate be a very open floor plan , with no drop ceiling . It ’ ll feel a lot bigger in there . In total it will be about 11,000 square feet of showroom , with parts and accessories . We also are near completion of a 7,500 square-foot warehouse that ’ ll be dedicated for just motorsport service .
Lake Cumberland Motorsports will also add personal water crafts to their inventory in the near future .
Just as Alton Blakley Sr . probably felt in 1965 when he started to sell his first new Ford vehicles , his grandson now has that same excitement in the family dealership ’ s new venture into motorsports sales and service .
“ There are a couple big [ motorsports ] stores in the Tri-County area , in Corbin and Lexington ,” Trey Blakley stated . “ As far as here in Somerset , there really hasn ’ t been anything big with [ motorsports selections ].
“ We feel like the market ’ s ready for it ,” he stated . “ The public ’ s response has been wonderful . Everybody that comes in and sees where we ’ re operating now , they ’ re like ‘ This is cool ’. It ’ s going to be even cooler here in another four to six months .”
